Pay and allowances

As a foster carer, you can receive an allowance of up to £25,000 per year, with additional tax allowances.

Our fostering payments are based on the age of the child or children you look after and your skill level. Payments are divided into a fostering fee and a fostering allowance.

Fostering pay and allowance

The fostering fee

The fostering fee is based on your skills. As you gain more skills with our foster carer training programme, your fee may increase in line with your increasing skills and expertise.

New carers usually start as a Level 1 carer.

The fostering allowance

The fostering allowance is based on the age of the children or young people in your care. It enables you to pay for their care, as well as extras like additional clothes, toys and trips out.

You’ll also receive a pocket money supplement to give to the child or young person staying in your home.
