Fostering support

Fostering family walking in the woods

From the moment you make an initial enquiry, through to becoming an approved foster carer, you’ll be supported by our specialist team.

You’ll be part of a valued team working to support the child, children or young person in your care. But we also support you, with a specialist social worker who gets to know you and your wider household.

We offer a range of support to all foster carers including:

  • a supervising social worker to advise, guide and provide ongoing support
  • access to a clinical psychologist to work with you to support children and young people with confidence
  • support from a fostered child or young person’s social worker, to help understand their needs
  • support from the wider fostering community including the York Area Foster Carer Association
  • support groups and social opportunities to grow networks of foster carers
  • linking with experienced foster carers
  • membership of the Fostering Network which provides independent advice and help for foster carers
  • an Emergency Duty Team (EDT) available to help with crises outside office hours
